We’ve created this oxygen management buying guide to discuss some of the products that are available to you. Please note that most respiratory items require a prescription before they can be rented or purchased.

One of the most popular options is an oxygen concentrator. These devices are designed to take in air from your surroundings. It works by filtering nitrogen out and purifying atmospheric oxygen. The purified oxygen is then delivered back to the user.

Standard models are ideal for stationary use at home, but you also have the option of purchasing a portable oxygen concentrator. Standard concentrators are wheeled for limited portability. Portable concentrators are much smaller and have batteries, often being small enough to be carried in a bag.

CPAP, BiPAP, and APAP machines offer effective treatment for sleep apnea and other breathing disorders by keeping airways open during sleep. CPAP delivers a constant pressure, reducing snoring and improving sleep quality. BiPAP provides two pressure levels for easier breathing, ideal for those with complex conditions or difficulty exhaling. APAP automatically adjusts pressure based on real-time breathing, offering a more personalised and comfortable experience.

A suction machine, also known as an aspirator, is a type of medical device that is primarily used for removing obstructions — like mucus, saliva, blood, or secretions — from a person’s airway. When an individual is unable to clear secretions due to a lack of consciousness or an ongoing medical procedure, suction machines help them breathe by maintaining a clear airway.

An oxygen cylinder is typically made of aluminium or steel. These tanks are built to store either compressed oxygen gas or liquid oxygen. Considering that oxygen cylinders store pressurised gas, the canisters must always be stored in an upright position and handled with extreme care.
It’s also important to mention that as the oxygen flow rate increases, the tank size increases as well. These cylinders are often large and heavy, so you may need assistance when moving or changing them. Don’t forget to think about what accessories you might need for your oxygen management equipment. Such as tubing, face masks, cannulas, carrying bags, carrying carts, and so on.
