Who Needs A Patient Lift?
Lifts are primarily used by caretakers to lift and transfer patients between beds, wheelchairs, and car seats.
Caretakers usually need a lift when:
- They are not able to safely lift the patient. Usually, due to the patient’s condition.
- The patient requires frequent lifting. Usually, to transfer from room to room or to reach the bathroom.
- Patient comfort is a priority. Lift slings distribute pressure more evenly than lift belts.
If you are still unsure, we offer in-store demonstrations and rental services for all of our Patient lifts and slings.
Which Vehicle Lift Is Right For Me?
If you are new to using vehicle lifts or aren’t sure which one is right for you, Ray Fisher Pharmacy has trained staff ready to help.
So which Vehicle Lift is right for me?
The size and type of your vehicle determine what kind of lift you can use.
- If your vehicle has a hitch that supports a hitch-mounted lift, you can use a hitch-mounted lift.
- Smaller vehicles benefit from a hitch-mounted lift, since the unit doesn’t take up limited internal space. Often, the hoist itself can’t even fit in smaller sedans and hatchbacks,
- If your vehicle has a trunk or area that can fit an inside-hoist, you can use a hoist lift.
- Larger vehicles can use either an inside-hoist or a hitch-mounted lift as needed. However, inside-hoists are often used, since larger vehicles may already be using the hitch for another accessory.
The size of your mobility equipment determines what you should use.
- Small equipment, like power wheelchairs or portable scooters, can benefit from an inside-hoist. Allowing the unit to be fully protected inside your vehicle.
- Medium scooters can go either way: stored inside for protection or outside for ease of driving on/off the platform.
- Large scooters almost always need a platform lift, as most vehicles can’t fit the whole unit. However, vans and pickup trucks can still use inside hoists if the hitch is not available.
Finally, your typical use case determines the convenience of what you use.
- If you are only driving short distances or require your equipment frequently, hitch-mounted lifts are convenient and quick solutions to bringing your mobility equipment with you. Allowing you to mount and dismount your equipment much faster.
- If you are travelling for long periods or need your mobility equipment infrequently, inside hoists allow you to keep your equipment safely stored until you arrive. Keeping your equipment clean and preventing damage.
Modular Ramps
With modular wheelchair ramps, you can rest assured that your new addition will fit your home perfectly! Ray Fisher Pharmacy and Ray Fisher Home Access offer a variety of different options for our ramps. These can include different platform options and a variety of final shapes your ramp can take. Because of this, you can align your ramp to your front porch, making it a more natural-looking entrance to your home.
Modular ramps can be assembled either outside or inside your home, depending on how you would like to use them. Many people use Modular Ramps as entrance pathways outside their home or as an alternative means of entry via their garage or side entrance.
Vertical Platform Lifts
Vertical platform lifts are an excellent option when choosing an alternative to stairs for your deck, porch or garage. A vertical platform lift gives you easier access to the outside of your home. Sometimes called a porch lift, this outdoor device can transport you and your wheelchair or scooter from one level to another by the push of a button on a semi-enclosed platform. You can easily move up and down the lift with the buttons on the side of the unit. This cost-effective option will give you the accessibility to enter and exit your home as needed, without any assistance.
One major benefit that vertical platform lifts offer is that they ultimately save space compared to wheelchair ramps. If you live in the city, most times you don’t have enough room to install a wheelchair ramp that is up to code. For example, a staircase with seven stairs requires approximately 50 feet of space to accommodate a wheelchair ramp. In comparison, a vertical platform lift only needs a 5’X5’ area to be installed. Due to their size and benefits, many people are opting to install vertical platform lifts instead of alternative access methods.
Accessing different levels of your home, inside and out, shouldn’t be a struggle in your life. Contact us today to learn about our available options to help you better maneuver around your home and to schedule an evaluation.
Stair Lifts
Investing in a stair lift may be a good option as this will allow you to stay in your own home, and you’ll be able to access all rooms. If you suffer from mobility issues or a disability, you’ll know that stairs can be one of the biggest challenges. As we age, many people become less mobile, and some can no longer climb the stairs in their homes.
If you’ve been living with barriers in your home, you may like to consider installing a stair lift. This will give you full access to the upper floor of your home.
Having a stair lift installed will give seniors and people who have disabilities more freedom. If getting up and downstairs has become a challenge for you, you may be living in just the bottom half of your home. Or perhaps you only go upstairs once a day to get into bed and don’t come down until the morning.
Investing in a stair lift will give you more freedom as you’ll be able to move your bedroom back upstairs and can also visit the upstairs or downstairs rooms in your home whenever you need to. You can enjoy using your entire home as you once were able to without the stairs being an obstacle.
